Hi i just bought a civic dx off a buddy of mine and he didnt know anything about the car except its a 1.6l and he thinks it might be SOHC....so i am askin you guys what engine comes stock with a 94 dx coupe and if it is SOHC...also what are some common SOHC swaps....lol sorry for the pestering but this is my first non-rotary engine vehicle (besides my truck which is a diesel)...I am normally a mazda man but i wanted to try my hand at a honda so here i am

Stock would be a D15B7 1.5 liter SOHC non-VTEC. Look for the engine code stamped on a flat spot on the front side of the block where the engine meets the transmission. If it says "VTEC" on the valve cover it has been swapped to a faster engine, or at least the head has. Putting a VTEC head onto an originally non-VTEC engine is called the "mini me" conversion.

 

Ok thanks...another question i had was is there a 1.6l SOHC that is a common swap with these cars bc my buddy is convinced that the motor in the civic i took off his hands is a 1.6 SOHC

 

Yes there are a lot of 1.6 liter ones. Starting in 1996 there was a 1.6 liter non-VTEC. Just look at the number on your engine D15 = 1.5 liter D16 = 1.6 liter. They're really interchangeable, pretty much any of the SOHC D series blocks, heads and transmissions will bolt up to each other.
