Default Vehicle has a log at 4500rpm

Hey guy im new to this and i need some help, I have a 97 civic coupe 1.6 sohc vtec which i think the wireloom is OBD2, i did a little conversion over the weekend where i replace the head with a 1.5 head which has 2 solenoids.

Original head had only one vtec solenoid which had one vtec wire, and the new 1.5 head had double vtec solenoids with 2 seperate wires. when the car was done took it for a spin i was told that how this head whould work is like a 3rd stage vtec so i comes in at diffrent intervals.

My frind whom worked on the car connected one of the vtech wire which had a green wire, which matched the wire on my previous engine head, the odd wire was a red one that was connected to the other solenoid.

When we went for a test drive when the car reached 4500 rpm it logged like it wasnt getting enough fuel or air but it cut the speed and sputtered then as soon as it passed and reached 5000rph it build up back slowly but when it reached 600rpm the vtec came in.

My question is.. what could i do to correct this log as it is a major pain, you cant even race if someone jumps up on you on the damn road... do i need to convert to OBD1 or buy a vtech controller to let the vtec come in at 4500 rpm where the log problem is? or is there a way i could get the benefit of the next solenoid working with my current OBD2 setup with my computer without having to change my wireharness & computer.... please someone help me solve this problem, i had many opinions but i need someone who knows of a problem like this and any possible way to correct this.

thanks guys

Yea it is the stock D16Y8 block i have in mycarand the head actually came of a similar block my friend had on his modified engine, he sold his honda so he gave me the head which was the 1.5 head, he was running low 14s on a quarter mile.

I am using the stock ECU in my car , also i forgot to mention it was burning too rich then moved the distributor to advance the timing also we put in some hot plugs, then when we took it on a drive it actually felt a better however it cattles now like it is burning lean now... awwwww man.. im stressed.

is it from a JDM D15B? that has 3-stage VTEC. I don't know much about it but I'm assuming you need the ECU that your friend was running. You ECU doesn't know how to engage the 3-stage VTEC, so it is not going to work.

Actually i was just doing a lil research and that way is one option , but if i can get a EK3 ecu which is a P2j thats the idela one, it is OBD2 so now im on the hunt for a ECU, i really want the full adavtage of the head plus less hassel of doing other conversions.
