Default Vtec Kick

My civic has always leaked oil, i got it checked and they told me they had to flush the transmission and all this other stuff i cant remember, i had my car in miami at a body shop and since my dads transmission shop in near he told me to bring it in an leave it there for a few days to get everything fixed. Now i had this car for 2 years and i have never heard vtec kick in, and nowafter i hit 6k u can hear the change over really good, but heres the problem, i thought vtec kicked in at 5500, and once u hit vtec it stays (ON) for the gear after.I hear mines kick in on every gear and i find that weird.

Vtec has nothing to do about gears or speed, its just the rpm. Its diffrent on most civic and I think mine kicks in at 4800 rpm. It stays on untill you go under the limit then it just runs the normal cam

d16z6/y8 = 4800rpm
b16=5500rpm

and vtec stays on as long as you stay above the engagement rpm... drop below it and vtec shuts off.
