Default Wifes Car!

Just got hitched to my wife, and have now taken over all work on her Civic (2005 Auto, base model)

She has 60K miles and has lost the maintenance guide. She has been doing the sheduled oil changed and tire rotations....what else should be done at 60K?

Took it to a VIP (local service shop) and they said: I would need an Trans flush and it would cost $163.00

Is this true? what other items should be taken care of?

Also how hard is it to replace the front brakes?

they should not charge 160 for a trans flush. all a trans flush consist of is unscrewing a bolt, fluids leaks out. refill. they are trying to hustle you. front brakes shouldnt be that hard. on my car, its 1-2 screws-move caliper, take out outside pad, use something to push the inner pad in to make the piston go back in- remove pad- and then replace with new pads. its a pretty easy procedure.

as for other items im not sure. you can try google'n them.

There's a basic DIY on the transmission fluid swap. The pictures are gone due to a forum software upgrade but the process is basically the same.

Front disc brakes are pretty simple too. Here's a DIY for pads and rotors. Ignore the part about the rotors. http://www.civicforums.com/forums/18...ads-rotor.html

Do not have the transmission flushed. Simply drain and refill it with Honda ATF. It's unlikely a third party shop will have the correct fluid in their flushing machine, and generic ATF is bad for a Honda.

Like the others said, a basic "pad slap" brake job is very simple. If you let them wear down to the metal you will need to replace the rotors too, which makes it more expensive but really not much more complicated.
