Post Shandle's '00 Civic Hatch build aka "The Incredible Hulk"

Just picked up this little gem for $2,800. Power steering went out on the way home, replaced it the next day. 200 bucks. So, I've got 3 grand in this project so far.

----------BUILD LIST---------

-shave emblems (H on back is all that's left, will be shaved when painted)
-spoon replica lip kit
-si grille
-OEM amber sidemarkers
-tein s techs (INSTALLED)
-Koni STR.T's (INSTALLED)
-when spring rolls around im going to spray paint entire car olive green, including door jams (will do bay during swap) F*** the haters!
-needs new rubber clutch pedal cover and dead pedal
-rewrap headliner
-paint A and B pillars
-wink mirror (sticker bombed)
-Sticker-bomb radio-surround and replace cd player with Double DIN
-GSR blades OR Ls Meshies for winter (or perhaps permanent replacement for my 17's?)
-undercarriage braces (megan H brace)
-GSR sway bar
-rear disc brake conversion (reconsidering this after reviews I've read on HT... doesn't really seem worth it anymore)
-probably more misc stuff that I'm forgetting...

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

I need to do alot of motor swap research. Input and opinions would be appreciated.

Current plans are a basic H22 swap. If compression is good, will probably add OEM springs/retainers and type-s cams. Will probably do H23 manual tensioner conversion and balance shaft removal. Want to add a Kiddracing header and full 2.5inch exhaust with magnaflow cat and twin-loop muffler to keep it quiet.

Price and Parts list needed for H22 swap:

engine - h22 ($250 from a friend)
transmission - ebay? junkyard? ($300ish used - $1000 rebuilt)
mounts - ebay ($300)
shifter and cables - ebay ($100)
h22 ecu - ebay ($50ish)
civic ex ecu - ebay ($50ish)
clutch/flywheel - ebay ($300)
new rack and pinion - (INSTALLED - ended up having mechanic friend do it for $500)

- - perhaps other randoms like alternator, dizzy, etc., ($200-300) - depending on what comes with the engine, will find out soon

ESTIMATED grand total: $1300-1800 (probably more)

I can't seem find K parts around here. But that may still be the route I go. I wanna keep it n/a. I found a block from a 04 SI for $450 awhile back and a matching tranny for $200 that had a gear out. Both on Craigslist. Plus, I hear that its a pretty ****ing hard swap to do... I haven't made my mind up yet. Like Im a girl or something.

You really have to have the patience to do swaps like that is all...i bet if you can find a hook up like those again that you'd be able to find someone to help you piece together the instalation process (mounts, axles, etc). If its what you really wanna do, you should try and do it.

as long as I can get his D to hold up, the K is what I want to save up for. It's gonna take a solid year... unless I decide to use my tax return on the motor rather than getting it painted... =/

edit- got some floss, gonna shave the civic emblem off of the back hatch. Does the H emblem come off with floss too? (I've got goo-gone on hand, of course)

yeah, its a y8 from a '96. dunno how many miles are on it, but it pulls pretty strong

and you've got your wish: this will be an ongoing project. in the next couple weeks I will have:

-painted the pillars black and redo the headliner (black tweed?) - will also redo the door panels in same material
-shave emblems
-rattle can bad-spots in paint
-order and install tein s techs and Koni STR.T's
-may order new driver side gauge pillar, one gauge spot will be filled with a tach (to replace that enormous cheapo thats in there)
-edit- also REALLY need a new shifter/bushings... its like its filled with pudding or something. Can't feel where the gears are at all!

The H doesn't come off with floss. Just pull, but you're left with two holes. I would leave the H.

actually, since Im going to get the car painted in the somewhat near future, I'll probably take the H off and have him weld the holes shut. Everybody leaves the H. Im gonna be different.

and you're saying that the intake on my motor isn't the y8 intake? the block is y8, I know that...
