I bought my 2004 Honda Civic EX 1.7L vtec (D17 engine) new from the dealership. Since my son turned 16 I gave this car to him and he has put aftermarket performance parts on it to include: K&N cold air intake, ceramic header (4-1), new exhaust with cat-back muffler, Halo headlights, Euro tail lights, rain guards, tint windows, blue interior lights, etc.

My issue is that he was t-boned by a suburban that blew a stop sign hitting the rear driver's side door and rear axle pushing his car up into a vacant lot where his front bumper busted up and passenger rear tire buckled (see photos below)



Repairs are upwards of nearly $6K and the insurance company said they would most likely total it out and they are coming to pick the car up today.

My questions are:

1. Should I buy it back from the insurance company since mechanically this is a very sound car and I had the engine replaced less than a year ago at 160K miles (my son has put nearly 24K miles on this so it has nearly 174K miles on the car now)?
2. What are my model year and options to buy a Civic Sedan/Coupe/Hatchback to transfer the engine, transmission, exhaust, etc.
