1991 lx coil issues
Hello all, my 91 lx has close to 250,000 miles on it but still runs good. Well, it was running good. This week I was driving through town and when I slowed to cross an uneven intersection the Check Engine light came on. I didn't think much of it and thought it was due to a current rust hole in my exhaust. Once through the intersection, I pressed on the gas pedal to continue and NOTHING! I tried to restart while still rolling but the engine would just crank really fast. Parked, Towed Home, Went under the hood, nothing obvious. Came here to this forum and searched for advice in previous posts and found good leads. Found that I had no spark. Thought it was relay or ECU. Relay clicks as described and ECU is too costly. I had replaced the Distributor/coil/wires/plugs last year and did not suspect these. One post repeated to Never overlook the obvious. I found my old coil, replaced it and the car fired right up, Woo Hoo! This didnt last. I tried it this morning and it started up but ran really rough. (took a different car to work) After work I tried again and it will not start, just spins like a top. Any thoughts of what may be my cars issue?

Cranks strangely fast often means the timing belt is stripped, though it would never re-start after that. There will be no sparks if the cam doesn't turn.
Firing the coil into an open circuit tends to blow it out, you may have bad spark wires.
