I just bought a 1995 honda civic and started having problems the the day after I bought it.

It won't rev above 3500 rpm's. It acts like I hit a rev limiter. I replaced the fuel filter and plugs. after that it ran good for about 10 minutes then started acting up again. The plugs are white. The engine light is not on. isthere any way to check codes if it is not on? Any suggestions or insight on this problem would be appreciated.

 

Make sure the CEL has not been disabled. It should come on for 2 seconds when you turn the key on but don't start.

 

Most of the time the CEL is disabled by removal of the CEL bulb. Check that first.

 

the CEL does not work. I will look into getting it fixed.

 

Use this guide to access the back of the gauge cluster to check for a missing bulb.
