Default 1995 honda civic issue

so i have a 1995 honda civic, and when we are on the free way hills or steep hills in town, my car doesnt seem to be able to handle hills on freeways the big rigs in the slow lane pass us. even with your petal to the floor it just doesn't go and is real slow. what can be the issue? thanks

Start by checking the spark timing with a timing light. You must put the ECU check jumper in to do it. I assume the check engine light is not on and there are no codes.

Is it an auto? They are dogs. Mine can barely get out of its own way on hills. Depending on the grade of the hill, I have to down shift and run over 4K just to try to maintain any speed at all. I have a 94 DX auto.

That's a good point. They were not fast cars to begin with. Automatic should automatically drop a gear when floored, that is controlled by the mechanical cable from the throttle to the transmission.
