Default 2002 Civic Side Mirror Replacement Woes

Hardly a technical issue, maybe a complaint. I busted off a driver's side mirror on my 2002 Honda Civic and the internet made it look like a 10-15 minute job to change it, so I bought a new one on-line. NOW, I find that the bottom two 8mm nuts for removing the mirror are BELOW the level of the door panel, so 15 minutes just got blown outta the window so to speak.

Is there a crafty way to get those two nuts extracted and reinstalled without losing them? I would really rather not remive the door panel today. The door won't open due to a fender smash, just enough to slide into the seat.

"How come my Civic has to have those nuts harder to get to anyway? martin
