Default 2009 civic dashboard trouble

Hi.

My dashboard cluster suddenly went blank. Both the speed section with the fuel gauge & temperature section, as well as the rev counter and odometer all being blank. The only lights on, are the airbag, abs and park brake lights remain on. This is even when the park brake is released.

The car seemed to be working ok, the radio works, but the aircon seems to be affected too (even though the aircon controls light up, and the fan works)

I checked all the fuses , and they are fine.
I tried to do the check with holding the reset button and switching the lights on and off, but could not get the self test to work at all.

The backlight to the dashboard refused to turn off when the ignition was turned off, so now I have a flat battery as well.

Any pointers would be really appreciated.

Thanks in advance
Clive

I had the same problem happen with a vehicle (not a Civic, but same premise) and had to replace the whole cluster...

Hi Civic Duty

Thanks for the reply.

What happened is that my battery ended up getting drained, and I called the AA to help jump start the car.

Turned out that the battery cable had a bad connection, and this was causing the voltage to drop, which affected the instrumentation. I was almost resigning myself to buying a new MCU/fuse box which is what controls the dashboard.

So, with my MCU effectively being reset, and my battery back on its cable properly, I am a happy driver once again.

Hopefully this post will help someone with a similar issue.

regards
Clive
