Default 94 Civic Best Oil/Swap to Synthetic

Hey there,

I recently got a 94 Civic and I'm considering swapping it over to synthetic oil. However I've read that swapping to synth in an older engine can cause problems, Apparently as the engine becomes less gunked up, it becomes more prone to leaking.

My car is a 94, but it has only 13,XXX miles on it. Would it still be prone to such a problem? Can anyone speak on behalf of older engines leaking synth oil?

What kinds of oil do you older civic owners recommend?

Thanks,
Elliott

thats a wives tale if your engine is being held together with gunk then adding synthetic oil is the very least of your worries. if anything the additives in synthetic oil will improve the seals and clean the deposits. using anything other then Moble1 high mileage synthetic is a waste of money for a civic there are better brands like Amsoil but thats just over kill.

It's a wives' tale like itburns said. All old cars are going to eventually leak oil. Their owners then seek a justification for that other than the fact that they have an old car.

The timing belt should be replaced after several years regardless of mileage. It is made of rubber and will fall apart because of age.

Thank you guys for the insight. Those are two very helpful perspectives and I can understand the importance in being prepared to deal with the car's problems rather than blaming the products.

I've looked into the Mobile 1 Synthetic and I'm going to do the swap. Thanks again guys!
