Default 95 Civic LX TPS, MAP, or?

Hey guys. 95 Civic LX, all stock. My car's idle revs until my engine comes to running temperature. Has anyone else had this issue and what do I need to do to fix it? Thanks.

Sounds like the FITV/FICV.

I would start there by cleaning it. It's the valve that controls the fast idle when the engine is cold.

I'll admit, after reading a thread on it, it sounds like it will fix my problem. I'll just replace it. I can't imagine it's expensive. Plus, it couldn't hurt.

Actually a new IACV is about $150 - $200, but usually it is just dirty.

Also check that the cooling system is full. Engine cold, take off the radiator cap, it should be full to the top. Bubbles in the engine will cause the idle to surge.

I'm not ruling out the cooling system, but I did just replace the radiator and all the houses leading to it.

So how hard would it be to take the cap off and look?

You can't just fill the radiator once and be done. Any time you've drained and refilled the system, it takes some extra steps to get the air out.

I am having a similar problem with a '95 Civic sedan 1.5L engine. New car (to us) for my daughter. It has 100K on it, literally driven by a grandma since the dealer. Previous owner (grandpa) replaced the radiator to address a coolant loss issue. When we bought it we checked the oil and as I feared there was coolant in the oil. The owner sold it for $500 and we had the head gasket replaced. The erratic idle was present before the sale. We checked the cooling levels, and replaced the AIC (easy first step). Still idleing fast and slow until you drive it 20 minutes. The nest step appears to be the fast idle valve below the throttle air intake. We took it to a garage and they confirmed, saying that the wax pellet that is part of he valve is degraded and the culprit. I cannot find the correct replacement part (16500-P28-A50). Does anyone on thsi forum have a line on where to get this part (new)?

Default Fast Idle Valve

DefaultI am having a similar problem with a '95 Civic sedan 1.5L engine. New car (to us) for my daughter. It has 100K on it, literally driven by a grandma since the dealer. Previous owner (grandpa) replaced the radiator to address a coolant loss issue. When we bought it we checked the oil and as I feared there was coolant in the oil. Still idleing fast and slow until you drive it 20 minutes. The nest step appears to be the fast idle valve below the throttle air intake. We took it to a garage and they confirmed, saying that the wax pellet that is part of he valve is degraded and the culprit. The garage gave us the part # (16500-P28-A50). My research shows that this is not the correct part for a 1.5L sedan, and that we should use 16500-P06-A00 (this appears to be a better fit/closer to the existing part)
Can anyone on this forum confirm which part is correct? And as both parts appear to be discontinued, do you have an online place to get this part (new)?
