Unhappy 95 Civic Proble Please Help!

Okay, so I bought a 95 Honda civic ex with the 1.6 vtec only has 143,000 on it. I just changed the head out on it and adjusted the valves and all that good stuff. I drove it for about 200 miles, then I noticed it started to die when I would hit the gas. when I had it in fifth gear at low rpms and I hit the gas it would die? then when I came to a stop it went to about 700rpms and when I would hit the gas, it would die. I had to get it home, so I drove home in third gear, because the only way it would stay running is if I slowly gave it gas and then kept it in high rpms. I parked it and woke up the next day went out to start it to try and fix it, it wont start now? maybe flooded? I have been told tps, fuel pump, plugs, map sensor, vtec selinoid, distributor I have changed the plugs 200 miles ago it has freash gas in it. I am just looking for the best place to start before I go and spend a lot of money. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Test to make sure the fuel pump is working, then the spark plugs. If you can prove that both of them work you can begin to narrow the search to just checking sensors.

Hey, thanks a lot. I have done a fuel pressure test and have new plugs and all are getting spark. I looked at my map sensor and I have a crack where the bolt goes through. could that be an issue?

Are there any ECU codes set?

I jumped it with a paperclip and pulled up TDC, TPS, MAP, O2, Fuel System, Vtec Solenoid. I know that all these didn't just go bad at once, at least I hope not, but I do not know which one of these would set off all the others. I pulled the battery to try to reset the codes, couldn't get it to start, and therefore cant pull any codes now.

Codes might be set even though the engine does not start. Did you scan again? The TPS and MAP can be tested with a voltmeter. Also make sure the ECU ground is OK and the 5 volt sensor power from the ECU is proper. Bad power or grounds will disrupt the whole system and throw lots of false codes.
