96 civic HX help
just got a new (new to me) car, but the previous owner told me the cel was on but said not to worry, he said it had something to do with o2 sensers is this common? ive noticed sometimes in higher rpm the engine cuts out for a split second. could this be due to needing oil changed, needs spark plugs or could something be wrong with the motor. i have lots of experience with cars but not with these new ones mostly classics so i have no clue what to do here. please help. i will take any advice or suggestions. and i know this car should be getting in the upper 30s for gas but its only getting about 34 to 35 hwy. thanks and have a great day.

Get the CEL code(s) checked and let us know.
IF the previous owner sold you the car with a dead o2 sensor, get ready to pay up for a new one. The HX is a lean burn motor and relies on that o2 sensor to actually get that great fuel mileage. It is a 5 wire OEM wideband sensor. The "normal" non-HX vehicles in that generation use the more common 4 wire o2 sensor.
But, the o2 could still be good and the CEL could be on for something else. Get it checked out and let us know what happens.
