Default '97 Civic EX Trouble starting

'97 Honda Civic with 1.6 engine has trouble starting. Vehicle was running well with no problems and one day it would not start and it acted like the battery was acting up. Local parts house tested the battery and said I needed a new one. replaced the battery and the car did as before...the starter would engage but car would never start. I checked the fuses for the fuel pump and ICM and they were fine and I could hear the fuel pump when I turned the key over. I replaced the ICM and ignition coil and the distributor button and the car fired right up. Next day the car would not start as previously. After multiple attempts the car gradually sputtered and started but the starter sounded like it was dragging after holding the key on for a while too long.

Any suggestions?? Thanks in advance for the assistance.

Greg
