I've got a 97 Civic LX SOHC. I was driving it coming to a stop when the engine started running rough. It ran rough leaving the stop until reaching second gear and ran fine till coming to another stop when it died and wouldn't start again. Since then the car cranks fine but is reluctant to start. When it does it runs fine and revs up in park . When put into drive it will idle with a slight miss every few seconds. When you put a load on the engine it will rev up then begin to cut out and die if you don't get out of the gas. The fuel pump, filter are new. The, distributor,coil,plugs,wires are all recent and seem to be fine. I've eliminated the TPS, catalytic converter, fuel pressure regulator, fuel injectors,and vacuum leaks as the problem. I'm baffled and would appreciate any help or ideas.

 

Checked the timing? The timing belt could have skipped a tooth, which will cause a sudden decrease in performance.

 

No I haven't. With the thinking that if it was out of time it would run rough all the time.

 

It wouldn't run rough all the time if it was out of ignition timing. I would guess your timings retarted. That would cause it to miss under load. You might need to advance it. Get a timing light and check it. Hope this helps.
