Bolt fell off AC pulley assembly on 99 Civic; safe to drive?
Hey there. My wife and I were just driving home from a road trip and I noticed that there was a rattling coming from the engine compartment. Even worse, when the AC was turned on, I heard a belt squealing. Sure enough, the bolt fell off the AC pulley (number 19 in the diagram, and possibly 15 and 22). However, the pulley itself is still being held in place by tension from the belt. I'm curious if the car can be driven over the next few days while I locate the replacement part. Also, looking at the angle of the bolt, I'm guessing I need to jack up the front, remove the front left wheel and splash shield to reattach the bolt. Does this sound correct?

Removing the power steering pump first (unbolt it and set aside with the lines still attached) gives better access from above. I would loosen the jack screw and remove the pulley so it doesn't fall off and get lost. The belt won't come out of the car without undoing the engine mount but you can just let it hang there away from the engine pulley.
It is OK to drive because the A/C belt is independent from everything else. Just the A/C won't work of course.
