My 97 has 132k miles on it and I still use 5w-30 synthetic but I put only 3-4000 miles on it per year, so change the oil only once per year. If I had to change it every 3-4 months because of higher annual mileage I'd probably use a non-synthetic.

 

Hey, Thanks for the advice and I will do that. Probably go back to regular oil 10W30 and change it twice a year, especially since I have to put a quart in every 2 months or so for burning.
Would you suggest I buy a cleanable air filter so I can clean it more often? Mine takes the most expensive air filter and it gets dirty quick!

 

No problem; MK throw in good advice on a regular basis, as well.
I have two AEM DryFlo filters; that way, I can swap in the clean while taking my time to wash the dirty one. In the long run, you do save money with a washable filter.

 

I was told my car was burning oil and it was not true. So I wanted to correct this issue and post this. I just did my own oil change and used synthetic 10W-30. I also changed the pcv valve and what a difference it made. The old one was clogged.
I do need to get valves adjusted, how difficult is it to do. I spoke with someone at Pepboys and they said I have to replace them, no adjustment.
Is that true? How much am I looking at to spend and who would you recommend?
