I have a 98 civic EX and there's a button with a small red light on it next to the power sunroof switches...what does it do?? Thanks..

 

Most probably your alarm mate.

EDIT: And nothing happens when you press this button? Take a photo of it please.

 

i thought it would be an alarm too but there was nothing in the manual about that i dont think...i've never set any alarms off on it before, but maybe someone installed it as an aftermarket system...i'm at work right now and can't get any pictures, but if anyone has this button too (toggles up and down, like a circular light switch) and knows what it does then please let me know...thanks!

i'm looking for some online right now to try and show you but all i find looks like people adding buttons into their wiring for things like n2o or random mods..

if you look there and then click on the pic of the dash set up and steering wheel there is a big red light down to the left side of the wheel where the sunroof switches are; on mine its a toggle actino button instead of just the red light..

I have that exact thing (mine isn't a button), and it is my alarm. No doubt about it. Why yours is a switch is beyond me, but that's what it is.

 

excuse the layout and my laziness..that should fix it. thanks for giving me something to do at work haha...anyways...guess its an alarm...dont know why someone would wire it so that it could be turned on/off...hopefully its just the alarm LIGHT you can turn on/off instead of the alarm system. i know some cars dont even have systems but just theft-deterrent lights. these hondas come stock with alarms on them?

 

I think some models do, but not all. I know mine came with a custom Sigma alarm system, but it was all wired into that light. Mines all controlled from a keyring though.
