ive already done that it doesnt work, one of my friends said i have to run a wire from my tranny to my ECU and then they will work cause the car use to be an automatic, im just not sure ware i hook the wire up to on the tranny

I think the switch is at the shift lever on an automatic, manual will have the switch on the transmission itself (it is the only switch on the transmission). You should find a device on the transmission with two wires that don't go anywhere. Extend the switch wires back to where the shift lever was and identify the wires there that control the reverse lights, and connect them.
The ECU has nothing to do with it I don't think. You do need a different ECU when changing the transmission type to make it run properly, but the ECU does not control the reverse lights.
