Civic 2003 WONT ACCELERATE!!!! Mechanic is stumped!!
All of the sudden this Civic 2003 seems to have gone into limp mode or something. The timing is all off, gas is getting into the spark plugs, and it wont accelerate. I can get it to 40mph tops and then it will start to get nothing and just when i think its gonna die the acceleration kicks back in and it will get back to 20-40 mph. Rinse wash repeat.
When idle the car sputters and dies. Sometimes the battery even cuts out. Sometimes the car wont even start and will just crank. Got oil and plenty of gas in it. The code reader just reads misfire codes. The mechanic says it could be all kinds of things and has no idea what is causing it.
Anyone got any idea's??? So far i just have a suggestion to clean the MAP sensor. Ive heard similar issues on forums where its the O2, gaskets that are cracked, wiring, coils, transmission, cadillac converters, compression ect. Im at a loss here. The car has 130k and is worth 3k in good condition. Should i just go buy a cheap $1500 car that runs?? Really dont want to do that but ive never heard of a mechanic not being able to tell someone whats wrong with a car.

the timing belt and tensionor was due to be replaced at 110,000 miles its possible it jumped teeth and may have caused severe damage to the engine bent valves etc etc. you mite be looking for a new engine.

After 4 hours of diagnostics that's exactly what they found however they said nothing about any damage to the engine. They are replacing the belt, water pump, motor mount ect now. I think it only damages the engine if it snaps while your driving, they said the belt jumped and it was messing up all the timing in the car.

Only thing is all this was done at Midas. The dealer was a 30 minute tow ride away. I never really thought about the potential issue with not having a Honda belt but since most of these belts last until around 100k i figure that with 126k im probably good for another 70k before i should worry about the timing belt again.
Any other parts, sensors, chips ect that are infamous for failing between 100k and 200k?? I've replaced the timing belt, water pump, motor mount, serp belt, Plugs and battery so far in this car. Got it when to was at 60k. Got no manual.

what brand parts did they use ?. the timing belt tensionor should also have been replaced. probably also have other bad motor mounts once one goes the others shorty follow. also front lower control arm bushings always fail.transmission fluid only use honda trans fluid and no machine flush only the drain and fill procedure. cabin filter, fuel filter, oxygen sensors, there are things that need cleaning like EGR,PVC,IACV,throttle body among other things. read this DIY: forgotten tune-up mods - Honda Civic Forum
