Default Clicking Ticking sound, help me identify! Video!! *UPDATED*

This is a video of my civic, can you guys help me identify it? There is a secondary rattle in the video that goes off and on but that is just the exhaust rattling. Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks

Sounds like a valve adjustment is in order. That is what I heard anyway if the ticking is what you are trying to ID. Also see if your are getting oil up to the cam.

yup sounds like you need to adjust your valve lash.

tools needed are a 10mm box end wrench, flat head screw driver, and a feeler gauge. I would pick up a Chiltons manual to find out whats the proper valve lash spec. I know on older d series it was .08-.10 If i recall correctly.

Yes thats what I thought it was. Ive got the valve cover off right now and I am trying to adjust the valves. I am having trouble on the feel for "light drag" on the feeler gauges. If I am aiming for between .007 and .009, and I tighten until I can no longer insert .009, .008 goes in with lots of drag, but then .007 still has some drag on it, I dont know if it is light. Somtimes I can get it to slide right through if I make it perfectly flat in the space its sliding through. I think tommorow I am going to take off the individual feeler gauges off the set to make it easier. So far I have spent a lot of time on this. Its really tedious.

It doesn't have to be that perfect. It is better to err on the side of a little too loose, because too tight will cause many problems, while too loose will just make it slightly noisier.

Ok I adjusted the valve lash and it is much quieter now thanks guys.

I can still hear a very slight ticking almost sputtering sound. I can see a hairline crack with carbon around the crack on the exhaust manifold right where it comes out of the head. Thats just on the header pipe I could see (I could only see 2 out of the 4 from under the car, and 1 was cracked that I could see). Do you guys think this crack could cause the noise?

Here is a video of the noise, its taken in the dark so you cant see anything. I am leaning in to the engine compartment with the camera at points in the video when it gets louder. Ill take a better video tomorrow.

Thanks

Oh ya .... piece of advice for anyone thinking of adjusting their valve lash. When you are done and ready to start the car for the first time, make sure you take the ratchet of the crankshaft pulley bolt .... do not leave it on....like I did. Just ridiculous. The ratchet just blew off it, scared the bajeebies out of me.

Hey guys, I got my daughter a 2001 civic a few months ago, about 200,000 miles on it. Runs great, no leaks, but recently every time she starts it there is a ticking/chirping noise. It used to go away after the engine warmed up, but now it is more constant and louder. Are the valves or exhaust the only possible reasons, or could it be more serious? Thanks!
