Default EGR valve.

Ok this is a Que about my dads 91 Honda Accord. A little bit ago my dads car died and he took it into a shop. They told him that the Igniter and the EGR valve where broken or they though that was it.. so he put the igniter in and it started working good again but it was still putting out the code for the EGR valve. Now it's about a 2 months later and it will not start again it turns over but will not start like it's not getting it's spark. Anyway my que is could the ERG valve be the real problem maybe some how making the igniter burn out... if thats even the problem this time. anyway if anyone have any idea of what could be going on that would be great because the shops are not really sure so they just order all the parts that they think it could be.....
