He mentioned replacing the hub just in case the bearing area is damaged on the hub.
There aren't many shops in my area I trust.

He quoted around $58 for a Napa US made bearing and I think the hub was $130, if I needed it. The $450 total includes our rip off sales tax rate of 8.2%

So I got a call from my shop. It's not either of the wheel bearings. It turns out it's out the noise is coming from the final drive in the transaxle. It basically means it needs a trans rebuild because the bearing bits have gone through the whole tranny. WTF?!? How does that happen? It only has 97K miles. It's never been driven hard since my wife drives it most of the time.
So the only way to guarantee the job is to rebuild it or get a completely new one.The only thing I can figure that could have caused it was is the crappy trans dipstick got a little loose and maybe some crap got into it some time ago. The dipstick is a ****ty design with a cheap rubber grommet that barely holds it in.
Either way my faith in Hondas has went down the drain. It was bad enough the front brake pads wear out at around 10-12K now this.
I figure I'll just have her drive it until the trans goes completely to ****.

even 350 a side is a rip off considering most shops don't use OEM parts to save money. i would deeply consider doing it yourself unless your time is worth more then your money.

Its not the wheel bearings, it's the transaxle bearing. So it going to be a couple of grand to get it fixed. I'm probably getting rid of it because I don't feel like spending that much for a rebuild.

yeah thats a really big job but i would recommend searching other shops for a better price before giving up entirely. you could even find a used transmission and have it swapped its alot easier then a rebuild.

I just looked through the shop manual and there is no way I want to mess with it.
I plan on doing some shopping around but not without recommendations.
Also Portland Oregon is about 45 minutes away from me.

I had a bad "wheel bearing hub assembly" on the right rear wheel.

I thought it was tire noise (sounded like I had studded snow tires) but I should have known better as it was coming from the rear only.
Couldn't tell which side.

One Honda dealer quoted over $350 for the repair.

Another Honda Dealer replaced it for $270 (with 20% off coupon).

Noise is gone!!
