Honda radios, codes, anti thieft?
I need help with what an anti thieft radio is,
What the codes are
On ebay they sell anti thieft radios and say use the serial number to get the code, but then how is it anti thieft?
Where do you get the codes, what are the codes used for.
I saw one radio asying it was locked, needs to be unlocked to be used. (if that the code)
I just want a stock honda radio for my 99 Civic EX with CD and maybe Tape.
Any info would be great.
Thanks
Bob

Thanks for the input, but it still leaves me wondering what an Anti thieft radio is and why the codes.
If you dont have the codes, does the radio still work?
If you can take the serical number off the radio and Honda gives you the code, how is that anti thieft?
I just do not understand all this anti thieft, codes, some need it some don't thing.

It started out that you had to have proof of ownership to get the codes.
But, as the years went on, they realized that most young kids driving hondas switch out their radios. They would sell the old ones, and blah blah. So they just start giving out the code now. Was a great idea when it first started, but completely useless now.

GM does the same thing. I think the main purpose of this scheme is to limit the legitimate selling of used stock radios by junkyards, etc. Very few people would steal Civic stock radios anyway because they have very basic features and being standard DIN size, are easily replaced with a generic unit.

I have tried many Honda shops and they all want the Original VIN to the car the radio came from, which I do not have, bought radio from ebay.
Does anyone know a dealer that will give out the radio unlock codes?
Thanks
