How long between oil intervals and should i get Amsoil or Mobil 1?
Ok i have a 2001 Honda Civic EX Coupe with 110k miles that i bought on saturday. The car was given to me with most of the maintenance records with the most recent being an oil change on November 15th. My concern is that i'm going through a basic tune up checklist and well i'm just planning for when i have to change the oil filter. I forgot to ask what oil and filter were used and well i don't know if i change the oil right now just to be certain. What should i do? Also Amsoil or Mobil 1? I went to walmart today and saw the Mobil 1 filter was $9.99 so i grabbed it because at Autozone and Advance Auto Parts it was $12.99... so i'm looking to have to do less oil changes and protect my engine because the engine appears to have been well taken care of. How much more will an Amsoil oil change cost vs Mobil 1? Price isn't my concern if it's a reasonable price difference. Mobil 1 0W-20 costs about $7.29 at my local Advance Auto Parts but amazingly Autozone and walmart didn't have it. Maybe walmart has it but they ran out cuz they had 0W-30 for about $6.79 i think.
Also i live down in Miami. I've heard about a few people saying they use 5w-20 in the summer and 0w-20 in the winter. Is this better than just using 0w-20 all year long. I thought the lighter the oil the quicker it's get to the engine... What's the benefit of using on heavier oil? And what should i do?

I don't think people understand how are viscosity works. You don't want to run a 10w30 when your car calls for 5W20. 10 w stands for winter. The higher the number the thicker it is when it's cold. So 10 W is going to be thicker then 5 w. Which means your engine is going to have to work harder to get the oil up to the top where the valves are. If your vehicle says 5w 20 then run 5W20.

With Amsoil you can easily go one year no problem. Unless you're driving over 15,000 miles in a year then you would have to replace the filter because the smaller filters for Amsoil are only good for 15000 miles. So I would just change your oil and filter once a year depending on how much you drive. Amsoil is really good stuff I would highly recommend it
