How long timing belt last ?
Hi,
I have a 2002 Civic at 70k km(44K m).
According to the owner's manual, timing belt has to be replaced at 176k km or every 6 years. But the mileage of my car is far below 176K km and almost 9 years old.
When should i replace it with new one ?

I replaced mine (97 Civic) right at 100k. It was starting to show signs of wear. I think the factory one (Honda belt) last longer than if you were to buy one at the store. I usually ignore time maintenance, but with belts it's a diff story. I would replace any where from 75k-100k honestly and once you replace it I would definitely inspect it every 30k. You could always take the valve cover off and check the wear on the belt. Usually the belt with have glossy lines on it or the teeth won't be as sharp. Better safe than sorry..

if you have an 02 civic the manufacturer recommends every a timing belt every 60K because they are interference motors.. personally i would say every 90k thats when our shop recommends them.. i've seen timing belts last waaaaay longer but its not worth the risk..

im pretty sure its a chain just check wherever your belts are.. just behind them will be a cover if its plastic its a belt if its aluminum its a chain.. but im pretty sure its a chain which usually never needs replacing
