RE: How long will a Honda engine last?
How long it lasts widely depends on how it is maintained and driven.
My last car was a 1997 D16Y8 with 158k miles, it needs either the head or block resurfaced.. or both. I havn't checked yet.
My current car is a 2000 D16Y8 with 117k miles (around 80k on the engine because the girl who owned it before me either didn't take care of the first engine or can't drive) The new engine is still running strong with no problems... lol its taken the 55 shot of nitrouslikea champ and I will see how it likes a 75 shot here in two weeks when I hit the track.

I have a 2001 honda civic Lx with 128k Major work i did was put in a stage 2 clutch only becuz the slave started to **** on the old clutch and replaced water pump, timing belt when the thermostat let go. Honda engines will last a very long time as long as you keep up wit it. Change oil when needed, tune up al least once a year (that's wat i do) and keep aneye on all fluid levels. Make sure toflush radiator fluid every 30k or so. Other then that ur honda should go for years and years.

Head gaskets should last forever unless abused. They typically fail because of overheating.
People have gone 250,000 or 300,000 miles before the engine wears out, evidenced by burning a lot of oil. This assumes you drive moderately, change oil and filters routinely, and avoid catastrophic situations like overheating or broken timing belts.

If the car is taken well care of, your engine should last 200k. Generally in Honda's 1.3L and 1.5L engines have problems with headgaskets because due to a hot spot between the two center cylinders. It has to do with the location of the exhaust valves.
My car is 2002, D17a1, 80k mileage. The only work done is a break pad change. Soon it will get a timing belt and water pump change. Other than that, the car is still running strongly
