Default mini me w/o vtec ecu

I am ready to do my mini me swap. The only thing i don't have is the vtec ecu. (p28 i think?) I just bought this car 3 weeks ago and all the mini me stuff last week so now I'm dead broke. I have a chance to do the swap this weekend. I'm on call for work and i'll never know when i'll need to go in but i was guaranteed this weekend off. And this is my only car so I would like to do the swap this weekend. If I do the swap without the right ecu the only thing that will happen is i won't have vtec right?? No cel's or rough running or anything correct?? Then when i'm good finacially, i can buy the right ecu. (or rpm switch which ive been hearing about) But i just need to know if this can be done with my current ecu without problems...thanks guys and gals!!
