noise from steering rack on 2002 civic si
#2
That model should have electric power steering. Some noise from the motor is normal. If you've only had hydraulic power steering cars before, it is different. I don't think that anything is adjustable on it. Few people bother to tinker with a steering rack, they swap out the whole thing.
Also check that you're not hearing something else squeaking, like one of the bearings or u-joints in the column shaft between the steering wheel and the rack, or the ball joints in the suspension. There won't be any motor noise if the system is off when you turn the wheel.
