Question Oil pan Gasket

OK. I have an 2001 Honda civic i went to dealership to purchase an oil pan gasket. Of course gave them my vin # and was told that my doesn't take a oil pan gasket but just to add an gasket maker. Is this true?

If you have a cast aluminum alloy oil pan, yes. Only the stamped steel oil pans use the traditional cork/rubber gasket.

Surprised they didn't try to sell you some Hondabond, which is Honda's own gasket maker. Reportedly it is considerably better than generic stuff. There are several other places where Hondabond is the official gasket, notably the two halves of the transmission case and the water outlet.
