Default rear main ?'s

whats up. this weekend im replacing my clutch. noticed during an oil change not too long ago there was an oil leak coming from the rear main. since im in there im going to be replacing it. now, does the rear main cover need to come off with the seal? because i do not feel like taking the pan off again as it has been recently sealed, but would do it if i have too since ill be changing the oil the same day. and should i get new bolts for the flywheel? i have heard that they can easily be stripped but i will be using a 12 pnt socket. i am replacing the flywheel as well.
thanks everyone

You do not need to remove the oil pan. Buy a seal puller from a auto parts store if you do not have one. That will dig into the seal and have a bar to help pivot the tool against the motor and pull the seal out without scratching the crankshaft.

I have never replaced flywheel bolts. Never had a problem. Just use the correct tool and you are set. Sounds like you are good to go here. Just make sure you pick up replacement transmission fluid of course.

The flywheel bolts have 12 point heads-- you have to use a 12 point socket (same with the clutch cover bolts). They can be reused, use a torque wrench to replace them because if they break or work loose later you will have a bad time. The rear main seal is in a separate seal holder that bolts onto the engine block. I don't know if it is better to remove it first or to try to R&R seal with the holder in place.

cool thanks guys i appreciate the input. ill try just replacing the seal first to save me a little time, just hope it doesnt come back to haunt me. and one more question about the new flywheel, i wont have a problem with a new one considering engine balancing right?

There's no need to balance anything. Bolt on and go.
