The water pump went out on my sons '98 Civc (D16Y8) and he ran it until it died. I have taken some measurements and done some research on the motor/block and I either need to replace or rebuild it as there are some issues with the bore. I have more than .0012" of taper in the cylinders (up to .0035") and a couple of the cylinders are out of round by as much as .0075" so my question is; rebuild or replace?

I can get a motor from a wrecking yard that has over 180 PSI of compression in all 4 cylinders for $750.00 or I can tear this one down and send the block in for machining in which it will have to be bored over and then I have to find a piston/ring kit and all the other parts. I already spent $230.00 on the head so it is good. but what will be the most reliable and most cost effective.

What are your thoughts? Hoping to hear from people that have gone both directions and learned a valuable lesson
