Default speedometer and odometer

Is the odometer linked to the speedometer? If the speedometer breaks the odometer should still work, right?
I'm trying to order some parts for a friend and he thought the odometer would also not work
due to the speedometer not working. I'm not sure but I would think they're separate.

Thanks for any help.

I'm not sure about Honda... but most companies have 'em linked... if the speedo doesn't work... the odo won't either.

What's the most common reason it stops working? The actual component or the speed sensor?

there have been posts about the odo and speedo - but i have only worked on the older cars on these problems and not much in my life either.
but at some point they went from mechnical to electrical, thus someone will need to know the year (95)

I just got a check engine light on the way to work, I haven't got a chance to pull the codes. Both my speedo and odometer went out at the same time. I'm betting that my vehicle speed sensor is the culprit.

yes the speedometer and odometer are linked... so if the speedo doesnt work the odo wont either, and also yes, the most common thing to go wrong is the speedsensor
