Starter ground

Technically, the ground cable from the minus side of the battery connects to the transmission. It has a special fitting in the middle that grounds the frame of the car, then it ends at the transmission. Since the engine, transmission, and starter are all supposed to be securely bolted together, they can be considered a continuous piece of metal.

Gotcha! Found my problem with having no power whatsoever was that someone had either cot wire from +battery to main fuse or pulled one end from crimp connection then tried to put it together with electrical tape. I inserted and turned key then started at edge of fuse box and started playing with wire until I heard something in car. I realized I could get noise and movement when I jiggled the area under the tape. So now I have to get a secure connection and then go back to trying to figure out why my starter won't start.

Well, it turns out that after checking all sorts of wiring areas, the problem with getting my engine to turn over was the three year old starter. After checking everything else I took this piece back to Autozone. Testing revealed that it was dead so they gave me a new one. Now it cranks with about half a revolution. Now to get a tag for it and drive it for the first time in 11 months. Thanks for the help.
