Temperature range 188-202
Hello.
I have a new to me 2008 civic 1.8 w/AT trans. I have had it for two weeks.
I just fitted an ultragauge to the car to work on my fuel economy.
I noticed that my temperature gauge itself stays in the mid range and appears normal. If I did not have an UG, I would not think twice.
My readings on my UG read anywhere between 188ish cruising on long downhills. On long up hills the temperature will reach up into the 201 range with very occasional spurts to 203. The car usually sits around the 195-197 range on the flats. After the car is headed uphill and hits the highs of the order of 200ish range,it does go lower. I assume the thermostat is opening to full at that point and then cooling the car.
I recently flushed and refilled the coolant. The coolant is up to the filler neck. The reservoir is steady if not a bit full due to a little overfill.
Does anyone get readings like this? Does this sound normal. I have a Toyota van that hardly ever gets above 188 and stays steady most of the time. Seems this Honda will have a range of nearly 17 degrees or so.
Thanks in advance for the replies.

I thought a stock Honda tstat was a 195, and the fan is set to come on at like 203?
I wouldnt worry about it if you are not overheating. Every vehicle is different so a comparison to a Toyota van which may need to run cooler to help with towing heavier loads will not be a good indication of a problem.
