Default Welding cracked exhaust manifold

Quick question. I have a 99 DX with the obligatory cracked manifold. The dealer has already turned me down for warranty work, so I am left with 2 options. Try and weld the crack shut or buy a new/used part. Being that I have extremely limited funds I would like to try and weld the manifold.
I would like to weld while the manifold is still connected to the engine, to prevent warping. Is there anything I need to do to protect the computer while I weld?

Thanks for any/all comments.

Make sure you have radio code....then disconnect the battery. Welding is only going to buy you some time. Start saving for a new manifold.

Are you sure that you know what metal your manifold is made of? Do you know how to weld?

Only problem, if the mani is cast iron, you cannot weld it to steel.

Dont weld it in the car.2 many things could go wrong.pull it out and g-clamp it down to a flat benchif warping is a prob. its best to heat it cherry red with a oxy then weld it still hot. Hoffy
