1990 Civic DX hatch
Hello, I'm Joe and I recently purchased a 1990 Civic hatch Manual trans and I wish to know what affordable mods I should aim for first. Who makes a good CAI for this year car? Feel free to provide info for sponsors stuff and whatever else you think would be helpful. What can I do to this little motor? The car will also need a clutch in the future, but the body is clean except for the passenger door which needs to be replaced due to rust.
I have 3 things I wish for you to consider for the intial mods: 1. please keep it well below $1000(clutch not counted here) 2. This will be my daily driver 3. There can be some downtime as long as it's before winter. Unfortunately, I will need to drive it through one winter and then I can drop the car, ect.
I will include pics of the Civic after I get it cleaned up some.
My other car:

Thanks,

RE: 1990 Civic DX hatch
the best thing you could do would be to convert it to mpfi (multi port fuel injection) insted of the crappy injection syste on it now. you would need a new intake manifold, 4 injectors w/ fuel rail, resistor box for injectors, 88-91 si ecu, throttle body from 88-91 si, throttle cable from a 88-91 si, and do a little bit of wiring to add the resistor box and injectors (which isn't that hard).
this would be a good gain in throttle response and power for your engine.
or you could do a mini-me head swap and add vtec, which would have even more power.

Any idea or guess at the cost of doing a head swap with vtec? I have the tools to do everything.
Also I checked out the clutch a bit more and it seems as if it's just a throwout bearing causing the noise. I'll drive it till it fails or get's worse.
Thank you very much for your help.

a complete vtec head swap should not/will not cost more than 600 dollars with everything you need. and you have the opportunity to change the water pump/ timing belt because it is probably needed.
do a search for "mini-me" there is a diy on it
