ill cut to the chase, i own 3 cars, two RX-7's and a 98 neon sport, which i hate... as of now the neon is my girlfriends ride back and forth to work (52 miles one way) and she hates it too, i believe somethings wrong in the trans, i serviced it a few weeks ago and it had small metal flakes in the fluid, either way we are looking to get a new car, she had a 97 ex before she moved, wants another one now so i found one

first question, is it a vtec


and do you think its worth $7,500

WELCOME! what model is it (ex, dx..)? dunno for sure but i think u might be able to do better than 7.5k.

 

its an EX, very clean inside and out, im trading the neon for it for 3,500, payments will only be $125, so far its the nicest ex i found around here

i heard that some of the 2000 ex's didnt come with a vtec, and i dont know enough about hondas to tell just by looking under the hood, doesnt say vtec anywhere but the guy said it was

all i know is if it is a vtec it should be the sohc vtec-e correct?


also whats a good source to learn more about these engines and other specs on civics, perferably the 96-00, which is.. sixth generation? i think

 

It is a Vtec I have circled 3 things to let you know it is.

1st in yellow is the intake manifold
2nd in green on that corner of the valve cover you will notice a selinoid which controlls vtec
3rd in blue it is a flat spot on the engine to identify it, it will say D16Y8

and it will not be vtec-e, the only 96-00 model civic's that have vtec-e that are sold in the U.S. or Canada are the HX models.

DX/LX/CX models all get non vtec 107hp D16y7
HX models get vtec-e with 115hp D16y5
EX models get vtec with 127hp D16y8
99/00 SI models get a DOHC vtec with 160hp B16A2

 

I dont know to much about civics but that sounds like to much. I just bought a civic dx with an intake for $2000

exactly what i told him, i checked the blue book this morning on the way, when i got there the drivers side window was messed up, weather stripping is ripped so the window wont seal at the top, theres a small dent in the top, nothing to bad, we agreed on 5k with the 3k for my neon trade in, was asking 3,500 for my neon but oh well

took it for a test drive, how loud are these things suppose to be... the muffler looks oem to me but damn its loud, even more than my neon with the dynomax bolt on

going back monday to maybe complete the deal, banks closed today
