Question Help!

I'm looking to buy a 2001 civic lx with 150k for $1000 but the clutch is out and supposedly that's all. I'm somewhat new To Hondas so what are some things I should look for before buying to be sure it's only the clutch ?

Look around wheel arches and door jambs for rust. Not a show stopper even if there is any, but you could get the price down more too. Are you new to manual transmissions? If not - you should be able to tell. See if the stick gets into every gear fine as a broken clutch shouldn't prevent that. Frankly at that price it doesn't matter what's wrong with it, if the body is good you'll have it up and running under $500.

Ok now how much of a pain is it to replace the clutch?

How well versed are you with hand tools? It's possible to do it in a driveway in one afternoon if you plan the time right. On a scale of "one beer" to "let's light it on fire" it's about a 3 in my book. Your biggest hassle will be getting the axle nut off, Yes, just one. The other side you'll just pry off at the gearbox. Two jacks, some 2x4s, a socket set, a big flathead screwdriver, a socket for the axle nut and possibly a 12 point socket if you want to get the flywheel resurfaced. All not a big deal. Also you will need to refill tranny oil once you're done, something around 2 quarts.

Also if it is possible, check for its history, whether it has been into an accident or something.
