With a JDM D15B you don't need a swap. Really. That engine most likely doesn't have the same mileage as the car since that is not stock. I'd check compression and if it's good I'd boost that. Maybe even with just a JRSC from craigslist as that would be simplest.

OP Welcome to the site, I wouldn't suggest getting a DOHC ZC as parts are super rare. I am a huge fan of the engine only due to its rarity.

Like stiffler said the engine is probably still good, a turbo kit will give your boyfriend the peppyness he wants.

otherwise..

You might wanna look into an LS Engine [B18A1] It is a cheap engine that is pretty easy to find. It has more upside than a B16 IMO.

You guys can also swap in a D16Z6 [basicly same as current engine] for very cheap if you keep your eyes open for a good deal on craigslist. They are super cheap and a full longblock + transmission can be had for ~600$ all day long. That would be a simple swap your boyfriend could do himself with a lil reading up.

What is the car currently lowered on? How is the ride?

Main relay may very well be your culprit. Do the solder trick and if you do screw it up [it does happen sometimes] just buy one at dealer for 60$ I think.

Yay, female members FTW.

Why in the world would someone swap out a D15B for a Z6? That just makes no sense at all. Keep the engine. Boost it. Be happy with it.

Idk what exactly is all the hype with the z6??

My bf just got a z6 he is rebuilding and he is so excited idk... I likes my DOHC

I'd deff go LS but thats my own opinion since I already have one, also tell your bf to be patient because he will stumble upon an amazing deal when he's least expecting it!

Craigslist will help a lot with parts and such you will also be able to find an engine on there fairly easy!

Wait wait wait a gosh darn minute: I just read that he paid 1200 for a car that is almost completely gutted!??!?! WTH! Honey child oh my word. He should have looked on craigslist :/ I got mine for 250 with minimal problems & my boyfriend just got one for 600 with NO problems! Whoever sold him that car really got over on him

First, welcome! Where in MD you from(I'm in Howard County).

Second, why not just buy a replacement motor insted of a swap/upgrade. It sounds like you guys are in a crunch for money.. The most reliable and cost efficient thing tondo is just buy the same motor and do a direct swap. No wireharness mess, motor mounts to buy, ecu swaps, etc to deal with. Check out Absolute Pro-formance, they are a well known local shop that deal with Hondas and sell stock motors. IIRC, when I was looking at stock D16Z6, they quoted me $400 for one with around 100k miles on it.
