New Here, Sister bought a civic. Help me fix it up!
Hello everyone. My sister just bought a '95 Civic 2DR, EX i believe. It's very well loaded up with the sunroof, AR stereo system, etc. I really have no experience with Hondas, i'm a VW and Dodge/Jeep guy myself, and my only friend who is really into Hondas is in Iraq at the moment. I have a few things i would like to do to the car for my sister, and it also needs one repair ASAP.
1. I would like to get her a set of projector headlights. Not really for the looks, but because from my experience cars of this age usually have less than adequate headlights. I've noticed there are alot of choices for projectors for these cars and i'd like to hear people's experience with them, as far as the beam pattern and how well they hold up. My main concern is that she is able to see well at night.
2. The car came with a really cheap HU in it, which was also missing the face plate, so i bought a new HU and speakers for it. This was before i looked at the car though and didn't realize it had the Acoustic Research system in it. Does this system have an amp somewhere? Are the speakers the same size as the regular system (6.5" and 5.25")?
3. It has some fugly hubcaps on it, she wants a decent set of rims for it, 16 or 17". If anyone local to me has a set with or without tires you are selling please let me know.
4. The car has 2 cooling fans on the radiator, the one kicks on when the car heats up, but niether comes up when the A/C is turned on. I assume its either the fan or the relay. Is one or the other more of a more common failure on these cars?
Thats all i can think of right now, i'm sure you'll see me on here alot as she thinks of more stuff she wants to do.
Thanks in advance!

Welcome to HCF! Another EG coupe! woot woot!
1. I forget the namebrand of the projectors I have. But they've held up nice... Good night vision, I upgraded the bulbs that resulted in a slight improvement. The beams were seriously out of line, but that was a easy fix.
2. You can fit 6.5 in the front and rear. I don't believe the system has a built in amp (someone correct me if I'm wrong)
3. With a 4X100 bolt pattern you can find new tire and wheel packages all day long for pretty cheap.
4. One fan on the radiator and one on the cooling system. If the one behind the AC is not coming on when the AC is turned on then you have a problem. Either your relay switch is gone or the motor in the fan is out. Relay is about $40 I would suggest replacing that first. If not then the fan would be next. I've replaced both the radiator and AC fan once since I've had my car.
Enjoy your stay![sm=smiley20.gif]

Thanks for the quick reply!
your projectors look nice, where did you get them? What bulbs did you put in?
Do you know if that relay for the fan is a special honda part or a generic type relay that i could pick up at autozone or advance auto? Any idea where the relay is located? (i assume in the fusebox, but on my one jeep its mounted under the passenger side headlight ) Where did you get your replacement fans from?
Thanks again

Thanks. I got the projectors from ebay, I can't remember which vendor though. (There are so many)
I used Sylvania Silverstar replacement bulbs.
Autozone did not have the condensor fan relay for my Civic. The condensor fan relay and the A/C clutch relay are located directly behind the front left headlight above the A/C fan itself. The radiator fan relay is in the fusebox. I got the relay switches from the dealer and the radiator and A/C fan used from a salvage yard.
No problem.
