New (and I mean new)
Just took delivery on an '06 Civic LX. Wonderful car, though I've only gotten out into the country briefly in it so far.
My last car was a rusty but trusty '91 Accord. But this thing is just tooo much for words. What I'm looking for
is maintenance advice. Synthetic oil? Change oil more than the maintenance minder sez? Alternatives
to paying through the nose for dealer service? Links would be great. Woo Hoo!

RE: New (and I mean new)
Preaching to the choir, I know, but I am just thrilled with this car (4 door LX). I'm no tuner (yet) and this is my first (who knows? last) brand new car. This is going to be the family daily driver, and my goal is to get it to 250,000. My '91 Accord made it to 219 (and I was the 4th owner) with over 1000 to a qt. of oil (a fixable leak, never a hint of smoke). But the rear 1/4's were gradually turning to dust.
I live in the Adirondacks of upstate NY, and we have some fun roads if you prefer handling over sheer power. Winter blows, though, and is tough on sheet metal.

i have and 06 ex. they recommend to use a 5w-20 but i use a fully synthetic 5w30(for summer) and 5w-20(for winter). altho my car has only 4,000 miles on it i have changed the oil twice know. I changed the oil for the first time after 2,000(break in was over), just to be safe and clean anthing out. my second was just done at 4,000. i know these are early but, im going the safe route. but now im going to be changing my oil between 3,000 and 5,000 depending on what my sensor reads. i would just try to say away from letting it read 0% oil life, then after that it starts to show negative miles to show how much over due you are.

What's the sensor? the % reading on the odometer? I'm just learning about this car (750mi on it yet). Now that I'm over 600mi, I'm starting to wind it up a bit. My wife insisted on the automatic, a compromise, but I find I'm happier that it is a 5-speed, and I'm just starting to learn the power curve. That tach is there (where the speedo would normally be) for a reason. Why can't Ford and GM make cars like this?
It's not an SI, I have to be practical. But I love the thing.

To add, all cars I've owned I've been consistent with 3,000mi oil changes. Honda seems to recommend longer intervals. Can't hurt to stay with what I do? What are the advantages of synthetics? i just want to stay consistent, make the car last, and not spend too much $ on dealer service (is it really necessary?).
