Default Newbie from Asheville NC

Hey. just picked up my first civic today. This poor car is in serious need of help but I was in serious need of a daily driver. I had a 2004 Infiniti G35 coupe before this but got tired of the payment so off she went and now i have a 1998 civic ex to add to the list. I've always been a gearhead but was a Nissan fan for years. I still love them but Honda is the way to go when it comes to cheap and reliable. I had a 90 240sx with an SR20DET years ago and could rattle off any engine spec in the world of JDM but I've gotten a bit rusty in my old age so bare with me. I'm not sure if i plan to mod this car or just drive the crap out of it so we will have to wait and see. Any feedback would be welcome.

Rims, drop, 50/50 tails, different headlights. It has alot of potential.

there seems to be a lot of buzz on the 50/50 tails. where would go bout ordering them?

ok after driving the little green orphan for a month, I've come across a few questions. I read somewhere that powertrain wise, an EX model and an SI are pretty much the same. how far off from the truth is that? I've also ran across a few mechanical issues. My car idles REALLY low. sitting still it barely tach maybe 1500 rpm. The transmission seems to be having a few issues as well. It's really slow to shift sometimes and on occasion when it shifts its a really hard shift. There have been a few times that i've been slowing to come to a stop that it shifts too early into first gear and slows really fast from reving so high. I've read that it could be an O2 sensor. any other theories?

lol yeah. guess that might have been some important info. although diagnosing the shifting problem would have been much easier. Operator error lol

Well you live in US [North Carolina]....

So there is a difference between the EX and SI...

SI comes with the b16a2 DOHC VTEC Engine
Power : 160 bhp @ 7600 rpm
Torque : 118 ft·lbf (151 N·m) @ 7000 rpm


EX Comes with the D16y8 SOHC VTEC Engine
Power : 127 hp (94.7 kW, 129 ps) @ [wiki sux]rpm
Torque : 111 ft·lbf (45.79 kg/m, 145.1 Nm) @ [wiki sux yo]rpm


I also believe the SI came with rear disk brakes and a few other minor upgrades....
