hey, just trying to figure out how to work this ****. need to ask some questions about a possible transmission/ tensioner problem.. 91 honda civic is making a loud whining noise, similar to that of a weed whacker being revved, when i go over 60 k. any clues as to what it could be?

it only happens when i'm about to go into 3rd gear i think, just at 60k. this makes me think tranny problem but i know **** about **** so i'm really just guessing. But as long as i have my foot even slightly on the gas pedal (keeping a belt tight or something?) the noise doesnt happen. as soon as i'm not on the pedal and going over 60k its making the weed whackery noise.

yeah im just weeding out the simple explanations first i don't like being the bearer of bad news. you don't just want to start throwing money left and right. but even with the absence of a stereo system it could still be a bad alternator ??? but its almost impossible to diagnose car problems on the internet.
