Oil leak increases on grade
Hey guys,
Myson has a 1999 Civic and it seems to leak oil all the time (few drops on level pavement)but more so if it's parked on a grade...either forward or backwards grade.. Anything jump out at anyone? I'm almost thinking its the Valve Cover Gasket because there's such an increase. I have yet to look at the thing for him (he's not really into cars and I'm an old classic muscle car guy) and was looking for some ideas before checking it out tonight after work. Think it's the 1.6 ltr..pretty standard car, a DX with an auto.
Thanks.

RE: Oil leak increases on grade
main thing to do is look at where the oil is leaking from. tho it could be coming from anywhere. JUST HOPEFULLY you can visibly see where some oil has been leaking from.
also maybe from distributor O ring seal on the left of the motor.
their is several oil leak locations, valve cover raised CAM lobe locations, rear left IF Vtec equipped motor but if its DX it probably wont have it unless its been swaped.
the worst to replace is the REAR MAIN crank which is a hassle for any vehicle!
another 2 is on the front right of the motor, the top CAM oil seal, and the lower CRANK oil seal. also a PITA since you have to remove the pulleys and timing belt and such to swap. just like old school gotta pull tranny
and another leaking location COULD be the oil pan gasket. tho its preaty easy to replace! hardest part is geting the old seal off cause they stick HARDCORE! and take quite a bit of scraping work to get it all off.
main thing to do is go check it out... if its all to oily just clean the motor. SIMPLY GREEN cleaning stuff RULES spray on let sit for like 5-15mins as it says and hose it off, and then go take the car for a ride and go check it out again if you can see the leaky areas. if not just try again next day until the drip trail is evident.
