Valve Lash doesn't generally shake the car unless it is pretty bad. If it shakes only with the AC on, it's shaking the accesory pullies and you want to tighten those down and check the belt make sure it isn't loose. If it shakes only while moving and NOT at idle... check your Rotors. A warped rotor will vibrate the car's steering. Depending on the vibration's severity, it could be faced or replaced. If the car shakes all the time, check the motor mounts to see if one is broken or cracked. I still don't want to rule out valve lash, but I've run on some really out of wack valves and the car didn't shake or shimmy.

hope it helps

P.s. Ian, I had trouble reading your post...maybe it was just me

Is it you that just feels the vibration or does everyone in the car feel it? if its just you it should be normal.
