Default Very Green

Hi all! This is my first post and I am very green, so be kind. I just picked up a 2000 Civic EX with 94000 miles on it. I can't figure out which belt is the timing belt. I see three belts: one closest to the top of the engine compartment, one in the middle and one near the bottom. Sorry for the lame question, but the one on the top has a crack and I want to make sure I get it taken care of. Thanks!

Welcome! Make yourself at home! If you are thinking about chaning the timing belts I would stay away if you are enclined enough.

It's not that I want to change the timing belt myself-I bought the car from a dealer who said that all maintenance was done on the car. I want to know which belt is cracked.

Your timing belt is under a plastic cover and cannot be easily seen. In order for them to inspect this, they would have also had to remove the cover to see it.

If it's on a d-block engine, the timing belt is on the inside of the white enigne cover on the driver-side of the engine compartment, the rest of those belts are just accessory belts going to whatever your vehicle has... either way, as a newbie myself to the board, welcome.

honestly if the dealer said all the maintnance was done on the car, there should be no cracks on the belts at all. i say take it back to them and have it fixed. anyways, welcome to the forum. have fun and you will go far.
