"You bought what?"

"You bought what?"
Hi guys/gals. My son was ready for his first car. Worked hard, saved his own money and told me that he wanted me to take him to pick up a car that he found on Craig's List. Well there was no talking him out of it... so $1200 of his hard earned money and we have a '94 Civic.
I drove it home for him (have to teach him how to drive a manual) and had a good look at the thing. I am really impressed with the simplicity of car. I am not an auto mechanic, but I have not seen a nut, bolt, screw or component that I have not been able to figure out. And to tell you the truth, I am slightly relieved at the age of the vehicle... looks like my son and I will have fun working on it.
Well I am a bit of a nerd as well, so the first thing I did was look for a civic community to help us out when we get stuck, as well as document our journey.

Welcome to HCF. You've come to the right place, AND you posted pics.
You'll find this Honda to be VERY easy to work on. Might I recommend downloading the factory service manual as a reference? Go to http://downloads.hondatech.info/Auto...e%20Manual.zip for the manual. You'll find it to be an invaluable tool. (And free!)
[edit] Gave you the direct link too.

Hey welcome to HCF and glad to see your son got a Civic and he should be very happy with how the car runs, ^is a very good reference to download and also recommend a Haynes manual for any work the car may need.

It's got just over 300k miles. The first thing I am going to do is replace the cooling system components because I opened the expansion tank and it's got orange gel in it. Probably do the head gasket, timing belt and water pump at the same time as well. Give the jacket a good flush.
Then I'll do something about that air filter lol.
